ROBBIE PAUL will play for New Zealand against Great Britain tomorrow night determined to bang the Huddersfield Giants drum.

The 30-year-old half-back will be the only Huddersfield player in action at St Helens' Knowsley Road in the one-off XXXX Test, with clubmates Martin Aspinwall and Stephen Wild missing out on Great Britain spots after being named in the initial Lions squad.

It will be Paul's 14th New Zealand Test cap, and he admits it will be another proud moment when steps out onto the field.

But he also knows that pride will be increased because he is representing the Giants.

"It's not every day someone from Huddersfield Giants plays in a full Test match," said Paul. "Tomorrow night, it's a different matter. It's always a proud moment when I pull on the black and white jersey, but this will be even more special because I'm representing the Giants.

"I love it here at Huddersfield and the move has been very good for me. This is my chance to help further lift the profile of the club. I know most of the Huddersfield fans won't be supporting New Zealand tomorrow, which is fair enough, but I hope they support me and my efforts to put the Giants even more firmly on the map."

Paul is obviously hoping to emerge from tomorrow's clash injury-free, with the Giants back in action against Leeds at the Galpharm on Sunday.

But there will be far more nerves in the Leeds camp, with at least half-a-dozen Rhinos in Test match action, including Great Britain half-back pairing Danny McGuire and Rob Burrow, Huddersfield-born centre Keith Senior and Lions vice- captain Jamie Peacock.

"In a week like this, it's all about trying to conserve energy," added Paul.

"And, hopefully, I will have struck the right balance, so I can back up a good Test display with an effective performance against Leeds on Sunday.

"On top of that, I obviously hope the Leeds boys get the balance wrong!"
