HUDDERSFIELD Giants have secured the services of one of the top young coaches in the National League.

Andy Proctor has left his post as assistant coach at Oldham to take up the position of assistant to Lee St Hilaire and Chris Plume in the Giants' Academy set-up.

But the 35-year-old will also spend time working with head coach Jon Sharp and his Super League squad - when his work commitments permit.

Proctor will combine his new coaching role with that of a full-time lecturer in sports studies at Barnsley College.

But Giants football manager Stuart Sheard believes that will create few problems.

"The way Andy operates will work perfectly with what we see him doing with us," said Sheard.

"He will be able to spend time working with our Super League squad, Senior Academy and Junior Academy, and his input will take some of the pressure off Lee and Chris.

"We know from his background that he will do a first-class job and will add to the quality of the people we already have here.

"During his time at Oldham he established himself as one of the best young coaches in the National League competition.

"Although Steve Molloy was head coach, he was still playing, which meant Andy shouldered a fair amount of the responsibility.

"So there's no question he has a very good grounding."

Before taking on a coaching role, former prop Proctor spent three seasons as Oldham captain.

He also had spells at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Bramley.
