PROUD Huddersfield Giants chief executive Ralph Rimmer has today praised the heroic efforts of his players as they prepare for their biggest Super League game of the season.

The Giants take on Warrington Wolves at the McAlpine on Friday (8.00), with victory vital if they are to keep their play-off hopes alive.

It's a measure of the progress that has been made that a top six finish is still on the cards with two games remaining.

And Rimmer also believes the fact that five clubs still have a chance of gaining the last play-off place so late in the season shows that Super League has never been healthier.

"What a fantastic season this has been for the Giants and what a fantastic season it has been for rugby league," said Rimmer.

"At the start of this season I predicted we would finish between sixth and 10th in the table, and that's the way it has worked out.

"But I never expected the run-in for so many clubs to be as close and as exciting as this.

"If anyone had doubted what the Giants or Super League had to offer, I'm sure those doubts will no longer remain.

"What the players here have achieved this season has been nothing short of sensational, and who knows when our roller-coaster ride will end.

"Our fans have had a real ball this season, particularly at home, where we have lost just four of our 13 Super League games.

"Let's hope we can maintain that proud record after we've played Warrington in what is definitely our biggest game of the season.

"As well as being a vital game in our Super League play-off bid, we see Friday as being the chance for everyone to celebrate what has been a remarkable year.

"It's the final chance for the fans to salute the magnificent efforts of all the Giants players this season. In my eyes they are all heroes."

Question marks hang over the fitness of several players following Sunday's hard-fought 25-12 triumph over Widnes.

Jim Gannon (elbow), Jarrod O'Doherty (hamstring) and Marcus St Hilaire (ankle) are all struggling.

But coach Tony Smith is hoping by Friday they will all have recovered.
