BEN ROARTY will lead the Giants into Super League X.

The 27-year-old Australian back rower has been confirmed as Huddersfield captain for 2005, with Chris Thorman named vice-captain.

The pair take over from Darren Fleary, who has moved to Leigh, and Darren Turner, who was forced to retire.

Roarty's choice is expected to go down well with the Giants faithful, who have always appreciated his never-say-die approach.

The former Penrith Panthers ace said: "This is a fantastic honour. I was stoked when Jon (Sharp) offered me the job.

"It's going to be a privilege to be captain of such a great team and the captain of a club with such a great history.

"I've always tried to give 100% to the team, and that's probably why Jon has chosen me and why I was fortunate enough to be named last year's player of the season.

"I've always tried to lead by example on the field and I know the rest of the boys will feed off my enthusiasm.

"But in reality, there are 13 captains on the field and we get inspiration off each other.

"Success this season will be down to a team effort, and I know we have a great team at the Giants."

The 24-year-old Thorman has already captained the Giants in his first spell at the club, which ended in 2002.

"There were a couple of times in the NFP that I was stand-in captain for Steve McNamara," said Thorman.

"But this is far more official and makes me much prouder.

"And I'm also sure Ben and myself will complement each other very well in our new roles, directing the lads all over the pitch."
