RYAN HUDSON has been ‘forced’ to donate £50 to charity.

The Giants hooker is the first player to fall foul of a new rule introduced by caretaker coaches Paul Anderson and Keiron Purtill.

Hudson was penalised for dissent during his side’s 46-16 Super League defeat at St Helens on Sunday.

And, as a result, the 28-year-old must donate £50 to the Giants’ charity, the ‘West Yorkshire Forget-Me-Not Trust’.

Explained Purtill: “We were penalised for dissent twice during the recent game at Wakefield and, in the end, that cost us dearly.

“So we immediately introduced this rule whereby any player who is penalised for dissent is fined £50.

“Ryan has, therefore, given over the cash today and, fortunately, was quite happy accepting the punishment.

“It’s obviously good that the charity is benefiting in this way, but I would still be a lot happier if the donations dried up.

“There’s nothing worse when players are penalised for dissent, and this is our way of trying to stamp it out.

“Penalties of any kind can cost you dear, as we found out at St Helens at the weekend.

“But talking back to the referee is something that simply can’t be tolerated by anyone.”
