PROUD David Hodgson has expressed his delight at being part of an England side that secured a record 74-0 victory over Wales at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium last night.

The Giants winger failed to get on the scoresheet as his country smashed England’s previous best win over the Welsh, a 60-13 triumph at St Helens in 1978.

But with Hodgson, pictured left in action last night, and Giants teammate Darrell Griffin both contributing significantly to the cause, the former Wigan and Salford winger was delighted with his night’s work.

“After missing over half of the season with my knee injury, this was a great way to finish the year,” he said.

“Obviously I was disappointed not to be picked for the final squad that’s going to the World Cup in Australia on Monday.

“But, as I said, after the start to the season I had, I don’t think I can complain too much.

“It was still a great honour to play for England, and to be part of a record-breaking team capped it all off fantastically.”

England scored a total of 14 tries, with Shaun Briscoe, Paul Sykes, Martin Gleeson and Richard Myler grabbing two each and Peter Fox, Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Gareth Hock, Rob Purdham, Mark Calderwood and Tony Clubb adding the others.
