SALFORD coach Shaun McRae heaped praise on youngster Richie Myler after the scrum-half scored a try and made another in their deserved 24-4 win at Huddersfield.

Myler, 19 next week, has been named in the Great Britain elite training squad and McRae said his performance in this match showed why he had earned the call-up.

“He’s an outstanding talent,” said McRae.

“Richie is one of those players who in a few years’ time it will seem like he’s been around forever.

“His call-up is an example to all young players. It shows that no matter what your background is, if you play well consistently then you’ll get the rewards.”

McRae also praised the team’s effort and added: “We had a 90% completion rate and that gave us a platform for the victory.

“It was our most controlled and disciplined performance of the season. But Huddersfield opened us up a few times and we had to scramble back to keep them out.

“Sometimes a scoreboard doesn’t reflect the way a game went and if Huddersfield had taken their chances it would have made a difference, so credit must go to our defence.”
