RISING Giants star Joe Wardle is celebrating at the double!

The 19-year-old centre yesterday scored his side’s second try as Huddersfield returned to winning Super League ways with a 40-12 triumph over Crusaders.

And he then put pen to paper on a new Giants deal which will keep him at the Galpharm until the end of 2014.

Wardle has been a revelation since he arrived from Bradford Bulls at the start of the season.

His try against the Crusaders was his fourth in 10 top-flight starts, with the Giants pinning him to a longer-term deal to prevent another Super League rival stepping in.

Although Wardle admits he’s no intention of going anywhere else at this stage.

“I was over the moon when the club put this offer to me,” said Wardle. “I’m already loving it here, so for them to say they wanted me to stay for even longer was an absolute dream.

“When I first came here, I never really expected to get the opportunity to play many games in Super League. I’d have been happy with the odd one here and there.

“But at the moment, Browny keeps picking me, so I must be doing something right!

“Being offered a new deal also means I must be doing okay, too.”

And Wardle says getting the deal crowned an excellent winning weekend.

“It was really tough out there against Crusaders, particularly in that unbelievable heat,” he added. “To get that try was definitely the icing on the cake.”
