TOP teenage Huddersfield Giants prospect Josh Johnson is relishing the chance to show what he can do at the highest level.

The 17-year-old England Academy prop will make his senior Giants debut in Friday’s opening pre-season clash at Castleford Tigers.

The Oldham-based front-rower, who signed a three-year full-time deal towards the end of last season, has already shone in Huddersfield’s Under 18s and Under 20s sides.

But with the Giants lacking the services of several senior forwards (David Fa’alogo, Luke O’Donnell and Larne Patrick are injured and Tony Tonks is suspended), Johnson is looking forward to making the most of his opportunity.

“Friday’s going to be a big night for me, and I can’t wait,” said former Waterhead and Saddleworth junior Johnson.

“From a very early age all I’ve wanted to do is play Super League, and this is the next step to making the dream come true.

“This is the first time I’ll be playing alongside so many Super League players and against a Super League side.

“I know I’m going to be pretty nervous before I get out there, but I’m also really excited about it. I’ve always wanted to test myself out against opposition at this level, and this is my chance.”

And Johnson also feels ready to make the next step.

“This is my first pre-season and I feeling I’m getting better every day,” he added.

“My fitness has improved and my skill level has also got better, which I always hoped it would by working alongside such great players and under some fantastic coaches.

“Nathan Brown has been brilliant to work under, and so has Paul Anderson, who has done it all in the game as a prop forward.

“He tells me new things about the role every day.

“I just hope I can repay everyone for their time and effort with a good performance on Friday.”
