GIANTS chairman Ken Davy has today thrown down the gauntlet to the public of Huddersfield to come out in force and back his side in Sunday's Challenge Cup fifth round home clash against Doncaster Dragons (3.00).

The McAlpine supremo last week admitted he was `embarrassed' that just 1,392 fans turned up to see his side beat Pia in round four.

That public blast prompted an immediate response from fans, with many criticising the pricing policy.

As a result, Davy has slashed prices on Sunday to £10 for adults, £7 concessions and £1 for children.

And in an open letter he has urged the area's sporting public to support his gesture by coming out in force.

"May I thank everyone for their many responses to my comments on the Giants attendance last week.

"The active debate demonstrates the genuine love for the sport and Huddersfield Giants which exists in the town of rugby league's birth.

"On the field I believe the Giants are providing superb entertainment, helping to bring sporting pride back to the community, and we all want more spectactors to share the excitement of Super League.

"With this in mind, I would like to reply to the comments on pricing.

"I would also like to make a very special offer to encourage everyone to roll up on Sunday.

"On pricing, it's correct that even though we are not the most expensive, as an all-seater stadium our matchday prices are a bit above the Super League average.

"However, we do provide an advance purchase facility so discounted tickets can be bought for £15 adults and £6 children.

"This is designed to benefit our non-season ticket local supporters and brings our prices comfortably below the Super League average.

"A number of correspondents refer to children's tickets.

"I would like to highlight the children's season-ticket facility, which includes all 28 League games for just £30, and if two are bought, along with an adult season ticket, the cost falls to just £20 per child.

"Finally, on Sunday we entertain Doncaster in a vital Cup tie when a win would put us into the quarter-finals for the first time in years.

"And we would love everyone to get behind us by coming down to support the Giants.

"To help make this happen we have listened to your comments and have agreed with Doncaster that for this match only we can provide advance purchase tickets at £10 for adults, £7 concessions and £1 for children.

"They must be bought no later than a day before the game.

"I sincerely hope that lovers of sport throughout the area will take this opportunity to join us and roll up for the Cup!"

And the Giants progress has already been boosted by the news that in-form props Darren Fleary and Mick Slicker, who were placed on report during Friday's 38-6 win at Widnes, have been cleared to play.
