Ryan Hinchcliffe is ready to be handed the Giants No9 shirt for the 2016 Super League season.

Huddersfield head coach Paul Anderson has revealed the big Australian NRL signing from Melbourne Storm has spent most of his time in pre-season training playing the hooker role.

And the John Smith’s Stadium chief expects that’s the position he’ll predominantly be playing in next season’s top-flight campaign.

“Hinchy’s doing a fair bit of nine for us and he’ll get the No9 shirt when our squad numbers are announced,” revealed Anderson, whose club should be in a position to announce who’ll have what numbered shirt in 2016 in the very near future.

“That’s because the hooker role is the one I predominantly expect him to play for us next season.

“We obviously have one or two options when it comes to Hinchy – he could play hooker, in the halves or the back-row – which clearly isn’t the case with our other overseas signing Sam Rapira. He has one choice, front-rower or front-rower.

“But the fact Hinchy’s already spent some time at nine clearly makes him a good, quality option for us. He’s obviously adapted easily to it.

“However, whatever role these two have, they’ve already bedded in exceptionally well here and are making a very positive impression.

“They are two quality individuals we’re very happy to have on board.”
