Pack powerhouse Sam Rapira is fit and ready to fire up Huddersfield Giants against Super League table-toppers Hull FC.

The 29-year-old former New Zealand international has overcome a shoulder injury and takes his place in caretaker Andy Kelly’s squad of 19 to face the Super League leaders at the John Smith’s Stadium.

However, Kelly still faces some tough decisions as to where to deploy his resources against Hull head coach Lee Radford’s side – who have 15 out of their last 16 matches in all competitions.

Kelly, who may be taking charge of the Giants first team for the final time after taking the reins following Paul Anderson’s sacking, will be without full-back Scott Grix and centre Joe Wardle, both injured in the 28-16 home Challenge Cup quarter-final exit against Wakefield, and goal-kicking playmaker Danny Brough, who is serving a one-match suspension following a high tackle on Trinity’s Reece Lyne in the knockout clash.

As a result Kelly has made three changes to the squad that was named for the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup clash against Wakefield with Kruise Leeming, Darnell McIntosh and Sam Wood coming in to replace Grix, Wardle and Brough.

However, the crux of the issue could be whether Kelly deploys recent signing Ryan Brierley at full-back or in the half backs.

The 55-year-old Head of Giants Youth Performance certainly has options – youngsters Leeming, McIntosh and Sam Wood providing cover at hooker, in the three-quarters and at centre or second row, respectively.

But the key could be where Brierley is deployed as the Giants could opt to let Aaron Murphy fill the full-back berth or Kyle Wood may step up in the stand off position.
