HUDDERSFIELD Giants' Senior Academy side cruised to another convincing win as they beat Keighley Cougars 42-16 at Laund Hill last night.

After falling behind to a third-minute Liam Duffy penalty, coach Lee St Hilaire's side were soon in complete control.

Centre Richard Knight gave Huddersfield the lead with an unconverted try in the 14th minute and midway through the half Danny Samuel plunged over from acting half-back.

Thomas Hemingway added the conversion to make it 10-2.

But it wasn't until the second half that the Giants hit their best form to seal an eighth win of the season.

With the forwards laying a solid foundation and the backs proving far too quick for their opposite numbers, Huddersfield scored tries at regular intervals.

Within four minutes of the restart the home side added their third try when Jon Gledhill crashed over from a Danny Thomas pass.

And three minutes later Symon Sutherland crossed in the corner for Hemingway to land a touchline conversion.

By the 51st minute Huddersfield scored again, this time through flying winger Marcus George.

Then Tony Williams put Tom Senior through to score a try, again converted by Hemingway, and the Giants were 30-2 ahead with 20 minutes remaining.

National League I player Eddie Wilson then stemmed the tide with a Keighley try in the 69th minute and Steven Hope crossed twice in the closing moments to give the Cougars some joy.

But with George having been gifted a second try and Samuel plunging over from a tap penalty in the last minute, with both efforts converted by Hemingway, the Giants victory was complete.

Attentions now start to turn to Featherstone next Thursday.

HUDDERSFIELD Giants have been lined up for a big screen test against former coach Tony Smith's Leeds Rhinos on Sunday, August 8.

Sky TV have confirmed they will now be showing the Super League clash live, with a 4.30pm kick-off, rather than the scheduled 5.30.
