HUDDERSFIELD Giants' Senior Academy side suffered a fifth Championship defeat in five starts with a heavy 58-20 reverse at Castleford Tigers.

In a contest played as a curtain-raiser to the Giants-Tigers Super League clash at The Jungle, the visitors were always struggling.

While Castleford fielded a side including a healthy number of players from their senior squad, Huddersfield only had Bolu Fagborun and the fit-again Thomas Hemingway in their ranks.

As a result, the Giants were soon adrift and struggling to keep up with the pace of their hosts.

There was, however, still a bright spot in the game, with ever-improving centre Luke George crossing for a thoroughly-deserved hat trick of tries.

Chris Clark also grabbed a try, with Hemingway - who was playing his first game in two months after recovering from shin splints - completing the Giants' scoring with two goals.

Unfortunately, that response fell well short of the home side's tally, with tries from Mossop (3), Kain (2), Grice, Croft, Lee, Haughey, Ireland, Heskith and Knowles and five Grice goals guaranteeing a home success.

For the Giants, it was their third heavy defeat of the campaign, coming after the 54-6 loss at Leeds and 62-16 thrashing at Wigan.

Next up for the Under 21s is a home game against Bradford Bulls on Saturday when the club hope to have a new Academy coach on board.
