HUDDERSFIELD Giants hit top defensive form to secure an impressive 38-0 Senior Academy First Division win over Featherstone last night.

The home side may have bombed several tryscoring chances and had a couple of other efforts disallowed.

But with the Giants proving to be rock solid from start to finish, the missed chances were never going to prove crucial.

Within four minutes, Ashley Johnson had given his side the lead, and Huddersfield never looked back.

Patrick Walker followed up with a penalty to extend the advantage before he set up Tom Senior to crash over for a converted score to make it 12-0 at the break.

And with Scott Wilkinson and Adam Gee hitting top form from the bench, the pressure was increased on Rovers in the second half.

Within eight minutes of the restart, Walker raced in for a solo try, and 10 minutes later Simon George followed up a Walker grubber kick to touch down.

On this occasion, captain Stephen Jones landed the first of his three goals, and at 22-0 the Giants were already out of sight.

Glen Holdsworth extended the lead in the 66th minute by crashing over from close range, and four minutes later hooker Gee darted over from acting half-back to crown an excellent debut at Under 21s level.

Marcus George then wrapped up the contest in the closing moments by racing 80m to score by the posts for Jones to slot over the goal.

Huddersfield will now be hoping the Junior Academy can follow the example of the Seniors as they entertain Leeds Rhinos in a big Championship clash at the YMCA tomorrow (2.30).

They will be confident of putting on a good show after last Saturday's superb 52-12 triumph at Salford.

And they welcome back leading players Luke George and Peter Robinson after injury, while they are ready to hand a debut to back-rower Nathan Hadfield, who started the season at Wakefield Academy.

Junior Academy: Cudjoe; Sutherland, George (L), Martin, Williams; Proctor, Mennell; Lawson, Robinson, Perry, Donlan, Flaherty, Clarke. Subs: Valentine, Heeley, Brook, Hadfield.
