GIANTS coach Jon Sharp has warned his players not to take their foot off the gas in Sunday's final Tetley's Super League clash of the season against Salford City Reds at the Galpharm Stadium (3.00).

Huddersfield missed out on a top six play-off spot with the narrow 21-20 defeat at Wakefield six days ago.

It means there is little at stake in this weekend's showdown, with some describing the contest as a `dead rubber'.

But Sharp has hit back at such statements and will not allow his players to hide behind this as an excuse as they prepare to do battle with the Lancastrians.

"When Salford guaranteed their Super League survival a few weeks ago, their coach, Karl Harrison, said his players could now sit back and relax," said Sharp.

"But I don't see it that way. As far as I'm concerned, Sunday's match is still very important indeed.

"As a club, we're all determined to finish off the season in style.

"We have set standards here and I'll be very disappointed if they drop this weekend.

"Injuries have hit us hard at certain stages of the season.

"But I'm again hoping to pick from the same 19 that have been on duty in the last two games.

"As a result, we were able to produce improved performances to beat Hull and then come desperately close at Wakefield.

"So the players know how disappointed I will be if they don't at least maintain that intensity on Sunday to finish on a high."
