HUDDERSFIELD Giants today completed the signing of Ryan Clayton and added him to Sunday's Super League squad to face St Helens at the Galpharm (3.00).

The highly-rated 22-year-old England A international has joined for the rest of the 2005 season after spending the last six months with French club Villefranche.

The 6ft-plus, 14-stone centre or back-row forward has made over 70 Super League appearances with Halifax - where he was player of the year in 2003 - and Castleford.

And Giants coach Jon Sharp admits Clayton is a player he has admired for some time.

"I'm delighted we've been able to get Ryan," said Sharp.

"He has all the potential to be a top-class Super League player and I look forward to working with him over the next few months."

Clayton is added to an initial Giants squad of 20, which again doesn't include winger Hefin O'Hare, who has failed a fitness test on the knee injury which kept him out of last week's trip to Bradford Bulls.

But the fact Clayton has only just started training with his new club could count against him this weekend.

Back in the Saints squad are key duo Sean Long and Jamie Lyon.

Long missed the 30-20 triumph at London Broncos after undergoing a minor knee operation, while Lyon is back after attending the birth of his boy in Australia.
