GIANTS coach Jon Sharp is warning his players to be ready to face an early Castleford Tigers onslaught.
Sharp sends his side to The Jungle on Sunday (3.30) as red-hot favourites to collect an 11th win from 19 Super League starts against a team languishing at the foot of the table
But even though Sharp's side are looking in a strong position to secure a top six spot and opponents Castleford have won only once this season, he insists it could be a testing weekend.
"We expect Cas to throw everything at us on Sunday," he said.
"It is a game everyone at The Jungle has targeted as one that is crucial to their Super League survival. It is one they believe they can win.
"I think that was obvious with the way they lined up at Leeds last Friday.
"They had Andy Lynch and Wayne Godwin on the bench, players who you would expect to be nailed-on starters.
"That suggests they were being kept in reserve so that they could have a real crack at us.
"And I also expect them to be lifted by the arrival of big New Zealand prop Mark Tookey.
"He's a rough, tough and no-nonsense performer who will give the crowd a lift.
"We need to be alive to his threat and alive to the positive impact it will have on the Tigers as a whole."
But Sharp remains confident he has the players capable of keeping the Tigers at bay.
Apart from one surprise defeat at home to Wakefield, the Giants have yet to suffer defeat to any of the six sides below them in the table.
And the McAlpine chief is determined to see that proud record remain intact.
"With players returning from injury, competition for places is an issue again," added Sharp.
"Everyone knows they are fighting for their places and I'm very confident this will bring the best out of them all.
"We may have lost Stanley Gene for the next few weeks, but I can add the fit-again Paul March, Marcus St Hilaire and Mick Slicker to the squad that beat Widnes on Sunday.
"That's great news."
