GIANTS coach Jon Sharp has been "highly delighted" by the way his players have knuckled down to the start of pre-season training.

Sharp's Super League squad checked in for the second week of training this morning, and despite being worked incredibly hard by new Head of Athletic Performance Geoff Evans, they were raring to go.

Another hard week is on the agenda, but Sharp admits he has admired the way his players have got on with the work with the minimum of fuss.

"Geoff really is putting them through it right now," reported Sharp. "But the way the boys are responding has been absolutely magnificent.

"I'm highly delighted with the way everyone is working and with the way things are progressing.

"It's been a tough start, but the players have come back after the off-season in good shape and have been able to adapt to Geoff's excellent methods.

"While the boys were away they were given a four-week weights programme and two-week conditioning schedule which they have followed superbly.

"As a result, they look much fitter than they did when they finished the season. The initial signs are very encouraging."
