Fully-fit Shaun Lunt is thoroughly enjoying the Huddersfield Giants’ punishing pre-season work and knows it could hold the key to Super League success in 2015.

The former England hooker suffered an injury-wrecked 2014, with long-standing ankle and calf problems restricting him to just 18 first-team appearances.

But having now overcome his problems, the 27-year-old is relishing the opportunity to train flat-out and is more than happy at the prospect of the hard work continuing until Christmas at the very least.

“I’m absolutely loving it,” said Lunt.

“After such a frustrating season, I’m hoping my injuries are behind me and I can get back to my very best form next year.

“Hopefully, the training will continue to go well and we can keep operating at the intensity we are doing at the moment.

As far as I’m concerned, the more challenging the work, the better, and I know that’s a view shared that’s not just shared by myself.

“Yes, it’s tough, but it’s also very enjoyable, and we know how important it’s going to be to get our preparation spot-on so we’ll give ourselves the best possible chance next season.

“I also thought it was great to start this pre-season with the Catterick army camp trip. The tough nature of those three days have really set the tone.

“But I personally loved it, because I’m into all these outdoor activities. In fact, Aaron Murphy and me are thinking of going off on our own to do something similar!

“As far as a team-bonding exercise is concerned, there’s nothing to beat it.

“There’s a really good feel around the club at the moment, and I know that’s going to bode well for when the games gets under way and we’re pushing for the trophies, which I know we’re more than capable of winning.”
