Giants coach Rick Stone is still not impressed with the defensive resolve being shown by his side.

The Australian watched Huddersfield make it two Middle 8s triumphs on the trot with yesterday’s 58-28 destruction of Championship club Batley Bulldogs at Mount Pleasant.

The damage was done during the opening period as the Giants showed their Super League class to open up a huge 48-2 advantage.

But while Stone was encouraged by what he saw in the opening 40 minutes, it was the second 40 that has given him food for thought.

“We’re happy to win the game, especially by 30 points away from home,” said Stone, who will today take a check on the fitness of prop Sam Rapira, who suffered a slight tightening of a hamstring.

“But we’re certainly not comfortable walking away after what we saw in the second half.

“It showed during that time that we’re still a bit brittle defensively.

“We’re still not showing enough defensive resolve, and we have to keep working to make sure we continue to toughen up in that area.

“Obviously, we’re pleased with the way things went in the first half. We played nice and direct, and scored some good tries on the back of it.

“It’s a case of building on that and working on improving our defensive resolve, so we can do a lot better at home to London a week on Friday.”
