ELLAND'S Yorkshire Cup final hero Jon Simpson is looking to continue the good times with Huddersfield Giants in 2004.

The 20-year-old back row, whose McAlpine Academy contract is up for renewal, was one of the stars of the show as Elland beat Leeds club Queens 23-11 to lift the Tetley's Yorkshire Cup for the second time in three years.

Now Simpson is hoping to build on yesterday's confidence-boosting display at Batley and catch the eye of Giants head coach Jon Sharp.

He's already set his sights on earning a new Giants Academy deal, with the ultimate aim of putting himself in the first-team frame for Super League.

And he knows performances like yesterday's will do him no harm.

"I'm back training with the Giants next month and really looking forward to it," said Simpson, who at that stage will also be deep in prearation for Elland's important third round Powergen Challenge Cup-tie against top National League club Leigh in February.

"Yesterday's victory has to be the highlight of my career so far, because I first started playing for the club in their Under 8 side.

"I'm hoping it's the start of what will lead to even greater things.

"This final win has given me a great boost and it is the ideal preparation for my time back at the Giants. To get a new contract and force my way into the Huddersfield first team is my ultimate aim."
