GARRY SLADE is the new Huddersfield Giants physio.

He takes over from Martin Higgins, who has spent the last three seasons at the Galpharm Stadium but has now moved to Australia.

Higgins was a highly-respected member of Giants head coach Jon Sharp's backroom staff.

But in the experienced Slade, whose Thera-Sport physiotherpy clinic is based at the stadium, the Super League club have the ideal replacement.

Former athlete Slade has been involved in rugby league for over 10 years, having worked with Bradford Bulls and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

And Giants football manager Stuart Sheard believes he will prove a quality addition to the club's staff.

"Jon (Sharp) worked with Garry at Wakefield and they both respect each other's work," said Sheard.

"Jon knows he has another quality operator on board, and one who is an expert in his field.

"And a bonus with Garry is that his clinic is on site.

"It means all of our players - including those in the Academy and on our Scholarship scheme - can take advantage of his state-of-the-art facilities.

"It's obviously sad to lose someone like Martin, but it's a bonus to have Garry."
