PAUL SMITH will make his Giants debut in Sunday's pre-season clash against Halifax at The Shay (3.00).
Head coach Jon Sharp today confirmed he would like to take a close look at the 26-year-old former Rochdale Hornets captain and second-row forward in action.
The initial intention was to `blood' Smith in the Super League trial match against Castleford at the McAlpine Stadium on Friday, January 30.
But Sharp now believes it would be to everyone's advantage to give Smith a run-out this weekend.
"I've been highly impressed with Paul in training and feel the time is right to hand him a start," said Sharp, who will finalise his line-up tonight.
"The systems here are new to him and it will be highly beneficial for him to try things out in a competitive environment.
"From what I've seen, I've no doubt Paul will do an excellent job. It's just the more I've thought about it, the more I felt it would be a good move to let him have a run."
