THE Giants have added Huddersfield New College’s vocational course leader Lee Speight to the club’s Youth Performance department in the newly-created role of ‘Educational Officer’.
The 31-year-old Speight will play an important role in working alongside the clubs scholarship and aspiring Super League players to ensure they carry forward a rounded education as they progress in the game.
Club officials were already familiar with Speight thanks to the existing partnership with Huddersfield New College, which includes the sharing of facilities.
And the man himself can’t wait to get started.
“Being Educational Officer means I’ll be looking after the educational needs of the Under 15s and Under 16s scholars, and it shows the club are investing in more than just the rugby league side of things,” he said.
“The Giants are taking a vested interest in the future and progression of the scholars throughout school and the choices that come after that. A career in the sport, even for the best players, doesn’t last forever.”
