ST HELENS head to the Galpharm on Sunday looking to make it two Super League XIV wins out of two.

Last season’s minor champions opened their 2009 campaign with a hard-fought 26-14 home triumph over Warrington Wolves a week ago after recovering from a 14-0 deficit early in the second half.

At the heart of their success was former Australian Test centre Matt Gidley, who scored two vital tries in a man-of-the-match performance.

That was their first competitive outing – and victory – since Saints suffered a 24-16 defeat against Leeds Rhinos in last season’s Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford in October.

But even though the men from Knowsley Road lost out in the biggest game of the season, they will be facing the Giants on the back of an unbeaten club record run of 18 games in the regular season.

That includes a 16-16 draw at home to Wigan in the last round of 2008, while their last defeat in Super League was 30-24 at Castleford Tigers on April 6.
