DANNY KIRMOND is hoping his Super League debut against Wakefield last weekend is just the start of a highly successful Giants career.

The 22-year-old former Featherstone winger would obviously have preferred to have made his senior bow on the back of a positive Huddersfield performance.

But even though the Giants suffered a disappointing 18-16 home defeat in front of the Sky TV cameras, Kirmond believes his confidence has been boosted by playing the final 15 minutes as a substitute.

And he is hoping he did enough to keep his place in the squad for Sunday’s Carnegie Challenge Cup fourth-round clash at National League Halifax (3.00).

“I really loved the experience of playing Super League and hope it’s just the start,” said Kirmond.

“Obviously, the result spoilt the occasion for me but, that apart, I thought it was a very positive day for me.

“I know I’m still a long way from being the finished Super League article, but now I’ve had a first taste of playing at this level I’ve got more of an idea of what to expect.

“Everyone tells you that Super League is a lot faster than playing National League or in the Reserves, and now I know for myself.

“Overall, for a first game, I think I handled it fairly well, and it’s given me a lift in confidence, even though I know I could have done better.

“But having got that first senior game under my belt, it’s just made me even hungrier for more.

“Hopefully, starting against Halifax in the Cup on Sunday.

“Jon (Sharp) has still to finalise his side. I think he’s trying to keep us all on our toes after losing to Wakefield last weekend.

“But I think he knows how desperate I am to play.

“It obviously wouldn’t be the end of the world if I didn’t, because I know how much competition for places there is in the squad. If I missed out it would just make me want to work harder in training.

“However, having had 15 minutes against Wakefield, I’d love to have a longer spell on the field to show Jon exactly what I can do.

“I’m no stranger to playing against Halifax. I’ve faced them several times during my time at Featherstone, and I’m sure that will benefit me if I’m given the nod.

“After losing our last two home games in Super League, this is a massive game for us, because we’re desperate to get our season back on track.

“And I would love to be a part of the Giants side that makes that happen.”
