GIANTS captain Chris Thorman looks certain to feature against Hull KR on Sunday after a successful return to action in the Reserves’ 26-26 draw at Bradford Bulls at the weekend.

The 26-year-old goalkicking utility back came through the Odsal contest unscathed in what was his first game for three weeks after being sidelined with a dead leg.

Thorman played at Bradford rather than against Hull KR in the Challenge Cup the following day to make sure he had fully recovered from the injury. Club officials thought it too big a risk to put him straight back in for what was always going to be a physical first-team fixture at New Craven Park.

But with Thorman having now successfully got a strong 80 minutes under his belt in the Reserves, it seems certain he’ll return to Super League action this weekend.

It would be no great surprise if he were to return at full-back against Rovers, even though he showed up strongly for the second string at stand-off.

By the end of the game, the club captain had scored a try and kicked three goals, and was also involved in helping set up several other scores.

Winger Jermaine McGilvray was again in good tryscoring form with two, while Tommy Griffiths and Gareth Firm also crossed the tryline.

Among the scorers for the Bulls, who fought back from a 20-8 half-time deficit to share the points, were former Giants Academy players Chris Clarke, who scored a try, and goalscorer Danny Garside.

The weekend assignment was far more comfortable for the Giants’ Academy side who secured their first win of the season with a big 54-14 victory over Harlequins. Although Huddersfield had lost their opening three games of the campaign, they had been competitive in them all, and it was no great surprise that they proved far too strong.

By half-time, the hosts were 32-4 ahead and then just went through the motions in the second half to complete a highly emphatic triumph.

There were two tries each for Greg Worthington, Nathan Chappell and Ed Barber, with Ben Dawson, Greg Johnson, Deon Hendrick and Joe Parkinson adding the others.

Barber completed the scoring with seven goals (he had 22 points).
