HARD YARDS now will pay off in the long run according to Huddersfield Giants wingman Luke George.

The club’s top try-scorer last season says pre-season training under new head coach Paul Anderson has been especially tough.

And the 17-try star believes the Giants will be better prepared than last year when they play their Super League opener at St Helens on February 2.

“It’s been tough, to put it bluntly,” said George.

“It’s definitely a lot tougher this year than it was last season.

“Obviously Paul Anderson was here last year so he knew what he had to take out and what he had to add to last season’s training – and it’s a lot different.

“Everyone has been put through their paces, but we’re sticking together and helping each other get through the workload.

“We put all this hard work in so we can build up for the start of the season, and hopefully it will pay off in 2013.”

George has been impressed by the new players in the Giants squad.

“Everyone’s been doing well,” he explained. “A lot of the guys have come into new systems they might not be used to, but everyone has integrated well.

“The new guys have fitted in nicely and they’re showing the boys who have been here a while a few things as well.”

It’s just under a month to the first pre-season friendly fixture, and he said: “Pre-season games are another way of getting match fitness and getting all the rust out, so everyone is looking forward to it.

“If we carry on working hard, the possibilities are endless. We’ve got a good squad.”
