Underbank Rangers continued with their winning ways with a 26-16 victory over Crosfields.
However, Rangers were made to work in Warrington and it was a disappointing performance against a side that Underbank beat 58-8 at home back in May.
The home side opened the scoring with a try in just the fifth minute of the game.
Rangers did manage to reply soon after but it was obvious that this was not going to be a repeat of the previous time the two sides had met.
Matt Adam received a short ball pass right on the line from Josh Jones and smashed over for Rangers’ first try, which Jones converted.
The game was proving tough and Underbank were relieved to get the next try.
Andy Boothroyd passed a long ball out to the wing on the last tackle and it was received by Courtney Allette who went over for the touchdown.
Just before half time, Rangers managed to score again and they were starting to put a comfortable gap between them and their opponents.
Kris Harrop picked up the ball 20 metres out and cut through Crosfields defensive line to reach out in the tackle and score.
With two failed conversion attempts, the score was 14-6 at half-time.
Underbank opened the scoring in the second half, giving them a bit more breathing space from the home side.
Boothroyd broke through the defence and drew the full back out of his position to open up a gap and score.
However, just when things started to look comfortable for the visitors, Crosfields launched a fightback and scored two tries in quick succession to bring the score to within four points.
The last 20 minutes were tense with Crosfields only one converted try away from winning the game.
It was not until the 74th minute when Rangers scored the final touchdown that the game was won for them.
Harrop fired a short ball out to Dave Pawson which put him in a gap and he crashed over in the full-back’s tackle.
It was a relief for Underbank who struggled throughout the game with errors and it was plain to see Coach Richard Knight was not happy with the performance.
Underbank will be back in Holmfirth next week for their last home game of the season against Wigan St Cuthbert’s and they will be looking for a much-improved performance if they are to continue in their push for promotion.
