HALIFAX coach Tony Anderson is looking to new Australian recruit Pat Weisner to lead his side's challenge in tomorrow's clash against the Giants.

The 21-year-old former Canterbury player, who spent last season with Leigh, linked up with his new teammates for the first time last weekend and Anderson confirmed that Weisner will start at loose forward.

"It's not that big a deal playing Pat tomorrow," said Anderson.

"It's just a chance for him to have a run and for the fans and the coaching staff to have a look at him.

"Pat's in great shape, as he's spent the off-season training with Canterbury Bulldogs.

"We put him through some fitness checks at the weekend and it's clear he's been working hard.

"We're looking for him to take the lead against the Giants."

But the strength of this weekend's Halifax side could lie in the backs, where Anderson has picked some experienced performers.

Threequarters Richard Smith, Chris Norman and Oliver Marns have all played a healthy number of top-flight games.

While Anderson will be looking at former Giant Mark Moxon and Simon Grix to set a strong lead at half-back.
