DARRELL GRIFFIN is ready to be a part of the Giants' biggest side in the Super League era.

The monster prop has just completed his first week at the club following his end-of-season move from Wakefield.

At 6ft 5ins and 18st 7lbs, the 25-year-old is one of the biggest men in the game.

But he believes he won't look out of place in the Giants class of 2007 - and that physical presence alone will be no guarantee of selection.

"I arrived at Huddersfield not knowing exactly what to expect from many of my new teammates," said the former Oxford Cavaliers man.

"To be honest, I fully expected to be one of the strongest in the squad, and by some distance.

"But I couldn't have been more wrong.

"I just can't believe how strong the boys here are and how hard they work. I've never known anything quite like it.

"Even the backs take some beating, particularly Chris Thorman, who I have to say is amazingly strong for his size.

"It was certainly a bit of an eye-opener, but having now seen how professionally everyone operates, I can't say I'm at all surprised. It's also clear to me that I'll need to work incredibly hard to earn a spot.

"We've spent this week undergoing a wide variety of fitness tests, and they are some of the hardest I've ever had to do.

"The only consolation is they are still fairly enjoyable, and I already feel really at home here. The boys are great to get on with."

The fact Griffin has spent the past two months training with some of his new teammates has made it easier for him to fit in.

He has been working on a daily basis with Paul Jackson and Steve Snitch, who he played alongside at Wakefield.

And he admits their joint training programme helped make the fitness tests far more bearable.

"I was a bit nervous when I met up with the boys on Monday, but I know I shouldn't have been," added Griffin.

"The Super League player world is a small one, and I know a lot of the boys.

"I've worked with Paul Reilly, Eorl Crabtree and Chris Thorman with England and I've known Jacko and Snitchy for several years.

"We played at Wakefield together and we've been working very hard over the last few months, and it already looks as if it's paying off.

"I've been doing a lot of work on the weights and at 18-and-a-half stone I'm heavier than I've ever been.

"But I'm also carrying less fat than ever before.

"I know the Giants want to play with a big side next season, and it's obvious that's what we'll be.

"But it's also clear we will be very fit and very strong."
