Fired-up Paul Anderson is confident a home win over Leeds Rhinos tonight could ignite a major Huddersfield Giants’ Super League XXI resurgence.

Although Anderson’s side remain rooted to the foot of the 2016 top-flight table with just the two wins from their opening 12 fixtures, there were signs in the last few weeks to suggest the Giants are belatedly getting their act together.

They were deserved 11-0 winners at home to Warrington a fortnight ago and could count themselves desperately unlucky to lose 26-19 at fellow high-flyers Wigan last Friday.

And Anderson knows if his side can build on those two performances tonight, they’ll be too wrong for the reigning Super League champions, move above them in the table and start to build some meaningful momentum.

“I think the team that keeps its composure the longest will win the game,” said Anderson, who welcomes back prop Eorl Crabtree and on-loan winger Gene Ormsby for tonight’s derby duel.

“And there’s no reason why that won’t be us.

“Everyone has been tremendously encouraged with a lot of what we’ve been doing over the past few weeks, and we know that if we keep the possession at 50-50 we can hurt teams. We can definitely hurt Leeds.

“We know we’ve really got to scramble now to hit the Super 8s rather than the Middle 8s, and with 11 games to go it’s important we pick up as many wins as possible.

“A win over Leeds is vital to make sure we start heading in the right direction and finish the regular season as possibly as possible.”
