Paul Anderson has praised Jake Connor’s utility value to Huddersfield Giants.

After figuring at half-back and full-back already this season, the 21-year-old produced his best display of the season at centre in last Friday’s impressive 11-0 home win over Super League XXI leaders Warrington Wolves.

It’s expected the former England Youth star will continue in that role at Wigan tomorrow night (8.00) as the bottom-of-the-table Giants go in search of just a third win from their opening 12 2016 top-flight starts.

But wherever Connor plays, Anderson knows the young utility back’s performance will continue to become even more valuable to his side’s success.

“I know Jake’s a bit frustrated that he’s still not nailed down a position,” said Anderson.

“But we’ve spoken to him about it and told him his value to our squad right now is his versatility. You always need players like Jake in your club.

“He’s already shown up well for us at full-back and in the halves, and is now doing very well in the centres.

“His performance in that centre role against Warrington was one of the most consistent he’s produced. He looked very sharp with the ball and gave the opposition a lot of problems.

“And we know that with the more games he plays at this level – regardless of where it is – the better he’ll become.”
