(National II North)
A BRACE of tries from skipper Nick Sharpe and an improved second half performance brought Huddersfield the double over Kendal and moved them up to eighth in the National II North table.
It was a scrappy first half as Huddersfield, without star fly-half Chris Johnson on duty with Lancashire in the County Championship struggled to stamp their authority on the game.
Once again they didnt help their own cause by giving away a string of penalties, and during the game had three men in the sin-bin, and at one point were down to 13.
Winger James Wood put them ahead in the fourth minute with his 12th touchdown of the season, to which full-back Tom Owen knocked over the conversion.
Kendal hit back seven minutes later, when prop Richard Harryman got over the line, converted by Mark Ireland to level the game.
Prop Tony Stringwell put Field ahead again on the half-hour mark, again converted by Owen, and then winger Stephan Pratt scored his ninth try of the season, also converted.
But Kendal refused to buckle and winger Chris Park pulled seven back with his sides second try, converted by Ireland to leave them trailing by just seven points at the break.
Huddersfield came out more determined in the second half however, and when Sharpe crossed for his 19th try of the season, the result looked almost settled, but with both hooker Ben Morrill and second rower James Davies spending time in the sin-bin, along with Kendal prop Billy Coxon, the visitors put together a long spell of pressure on Huddersfields line, which, fortunately held firm.
Back to full strength Huddersfield never looked in any more danger, and when Sharpe added his second and the sides fifth try, converted by Joel Hinchliffe, the points were in the bag.
Huddersfield now just have one match remaining, next Saturday at home to Leicester Lions, who are still in with an outside chance of reaching the play-offs should Loughborough Students slip up in their final game against Westoe.

Huddersfields Chris Johnson played for Lancashire in their County Championship victory over Yorkshire at Fyldes Woodlands Ground on Saturday.
The Lockwood Park player was picked at full-back rather than his customary fly-half position, and during the hour he spent on the field, didnt even get to take the penalty kicks during the 26-15 victory over the White Rose side.
Should Lancashire beat Cheshire next Sunday in the final game of the regionals, they will qualify for the County Championship final at Twickenham on May 29.
