YMCA coach Damon Scholes sends out the youngest-ever side for the season’s finale at Barnsley tomorrow (3.00).

Skippered by Tom Sharrock, the first team very much reflects the policy of bringing on home-grown players, many of whom were in the successful Colts team of two years ago.

Young Ben Emsley is given his first-team debut after some outstanding performances in the Seconds at full-back, behind Adam Ryder, Gavin Stead and Simon Wilson, while in the pack, as well as the Dyke twins Stuart and Stephen, who have both become regulars are Josh Lumb and Jack Housley in the second row, and Sam Hodge at wing forward.

“It has been a strange topsy-turvy season, in which we have beaten some of the better sides, but then gone down to some poor ones,” admitted Scholes.

“Having analysed our results carefully, I feel we probably gave up around 15 points during the season, which, had we secured, who knows where it would have put us?

“But overall I’ve been pleased with the way they have stuck at it, and to have 27 turning up for training before the last game of the season, says much for the spirit in the club.”
