HUDDERSFIELD are rapidly approaching the ‘point of no return’ if they are to pull free of the relegation mire and preserve their National League status.

And tomorrow’s clash with visiting Preston Grasshopppers at Lockwood Park (3.00) offers them a genuine chance of getting some desperately needs points.

Huddersfield only went down 17-11 at Preston earlier in the season, and with Hoppers only three slots above the Lockwood Park men in the table, optimism ‘must’ run high in the home camp, especially as Field have now slipped into the actual relegation zone following Broadstreet’s 16-3 win over Leicester last week.

In the last three games Huddersfield have not played poorly, and had opportunities to win all three, certainly against Harrogate whom they led 13-3 at one stage, and look destined to get something out of the match other than a solitary bonus point in the eventual 25-19 reversal.

Similarly, they put in a stirring effort at Loughborough against the League-leaders before just missing out on a bonus point, while seven days ago they were in with a shout at half-time against second-placed Caldy, when they were drawing 8-8.

If those performances can be replicated then a win is a real possibility.

And although Huddersfield have a game in hand on those around them, and still have to play Broadstreet and the two clubs below them, Bradford & Bingley and Waterloo, then a win tomorrow is taking on the proportions of a ‘must win’ game.

Prior to tomorrow’s game, is the final Centenary Luncheon of the year, when it is ‘Ladies Day’, sponsored by Pink Link in the Waterloo Suite.
