YMCA chief Damon Scholes believes his side can secure home Yorkshire II success against North Ribblesdale tomorrow (2.15) – despite a crippling injury list at Laund Hill.
The latest victim is scrum half Simon Wilson, who has been ruled out for two months after tearing a hamstring in training, and becomes the TWELFTH member of the first-team squad to be sidelined.
Wilson’s absence has prompted director of rugby Scholes to sign up another scrum half, Tom Lockwood from the University of Huddersfield, along with fellow student Oliver Waldron, a second-row forward.
Both men are expected to feature in tomorrow’s clash as the YM look to bounce back from last week’s 27-10 defeat at leaders Knottingley.
And Scholes is confident that can be achieved.
“We are doing it tough on the injury front, there’s no doubt about it,” said Scholes.
“But I still have complete faith in the side we’ll be fielding tomorrow. Put it this way, there are times last season when we’d have killed to have been able to send out a side like this!
“Even though we’ve had to chop and change so much, we’ve still produced some great rugby at times, and if we’re able to do that tomorrow then I know we can win.”
Scholes has named an 18-man squad for the clash, but will delay naming his final line-up until an hour before kick-off.
The forecast for tomorrow is for gale-force winds and, if that’s the case, Scholes intends to go for an extra forward to keep the game tight, with a more open approach obviously ruled out.
