HUDDERSFIELD RU will be treading new ground tomorrow when they visit former Midlands League barnstormers Bromsgrove at their Worcestershire headquarters.

Newly-promoted to National II North this season, the Midlanders are currently in mid-table and have put together a few interesting results, including good wins over Harrogate and Sheffield Tigers, and a draw against Preston Grasshoppers.

“Although we don’t know too much about tomorrow’s opponents, you can rest assured we shall not be taking them lightly,” said Huddersfield coach Dan Hyde, who is hoping to have the same side available (3.00) that produced a very fine 16-8 victory of Leicester Lions last week.

“It was probably our best win of the season last week, because where Leicester presently sit in the table is not a true reflection of what a useful side they are.

“And I’m sure once their new recruits have a game or two under their belts, I would expect to see them quickly moving up the table. We are planning one or two fitness tests before the game, myself included, but hopefully we’ll be sending out an unchanged side.”

Both seasoned prop Tony Stringwell and second rower George Hinchliff went off with minor injuries down at the Lions.

But trusty James Davies and Francis Entressengle were more than adequate substitutes, and even though Hyde is still without utility backs Ben Paxman and David Hall, Huddersfield now do finally look to have some cover in most positions.

Huddersfield: Andrews; Ryder, Owen, L Paxman, Clarke; Johnson, Hinchliffe; Stringwell, Morrill, Battye, Hinchliff, Rhodes, Hoyle, Lewis, Sharpe. Subs: Hyde, Sutcliffe, Duffy, Entressengle, Davies.
