YMCA head coach Damon Scholes has issued a call for greater patience from his side when they visit Leodiensians tomorrow (2.15) as they aim to get back on the winning trail.

A run of three successive defeats has seen them drop down the Yorkshire II table (although they are still not out of the promotion picture) and Scholes knows only too well that his young side need to cap their indiscipline if they are to move forward.

“We have to realise we can’t score every time we get the ball and need to learn greater patience, instead of getting frustrated which in turn leads us to getting on the wrong side of the referee,” admitted Scholes.

“I’ve still not seen anybody in this division who scares us, but we have to become more streetwise and stop beating ourselves, which has very often been the case when we have lost.

“We have discussed discipline at some length in training this week, and I’ve tried to impress on the lads that it’s no good getting onto the referee if things are just not going right.”

Simon Wilson returns at scrum half after injury, but out goes second row Simon Whitehead (back) and Richard Doyne (hand), while winger Alex Shaw is on holiday and second rower Jack Housley is on the bench as he has a big game for the county Under 19s the following day.

In comes Andy Lyon at second row, while new signing Tom Sharrock, from neighbouring Huddersfield RU, looks set to make his debut at wing forward.

YM are just two places above Leodiensians in the table with one more win to their name, and it is certainly a game which Scholes will have earmarked as a ‘must win.’
