WARY YMCA coach Jody Shaw has warned his players of a potential ‘banana skin’ tomorrow when they face bottom club Rishworthians at Laund Hill (2.15).
The Copley side may still be looking for their first victory of the season, but Shaw is only too well aware of the danger they could pose.
“We had a similar situation last season when we visited then bottom-of-the-table Goole, we didn’t have our right heads on, and came back with our tails between our legs and a 13-8 defeat,” admitted Shaw.
“Rishworthians have a new player-coach in Lance Hamilton, who is an ex-Bradford Bulls Academy player who I’ve played with, and he has brought in several new faces to strengthen the side.
“I’m expecting a typical tough derby battle, because they will view it as their Cup final, We must be ready.”
YM are not helped by the loss of a number of players. Sam Hodge and Steve Dyke are on university courses, skipper Tom Sharrock and winger Chris Beever on holiday and Neil Pollock injured (shoulder).
Mark Lockwood goes into the front row for Steve Dyke, while Fabio Leonne-Mazza retains his place at flanker. New signing Mark Whitehead makes his home debut and Neil Walker is back from injury.
