HUDDERSFIELD RU hunt a third win out of three when they play their first home game of the National II North campaign against Bradford and Bingley tomorrow (3.00).

But even though his side are third in the table as opposed to the Bees’ 13th placing, coach Mark Sowerby is warning against complacency.

“We have 30 matches this season and we’ve played only two,” said Sowerby, whose team have won at Waterloo and Caldy to trail leaders Harrogate and Loughborough Students by a point.

“Yes, we’ve had a good start, probably better than we expected, but there are still several areas we can improve on, and we certainly aren’t complacent.”

Bradford and Bingley are still seeking their first win after a defeat by Broadstreet and a 37-37 draw with Waterloo.

But Sowerby warned: “It’s a derby match and they’ll be up for it.

“They will see this as the ideal way to kick-start their season, and we’ll have to be ready for the challenges they’ll pose.”

South African full-back Donovan van Vuuren, the former Cardiff and Doncaster player, and ex-YMCA winger Adam Ryder, a tryscorer at Caldy last Saturday, will make their first Lockwood Park appearances.

And there will be second Huddersfield debuts for forwards Dan Hyde and Gareth Lewis, who have returned from Otley and Manchester respectively.

Huddersfield’s Falcons side visit Bradford and Bingley while the A team host Thornensians.

l Huddersfield will visit either Old Brodleians or Cleckheaton in the first round of the Yorkshire Cup on Saturday, November 21.

Brods and Cleck clash in one of three preliminary round ties.
