UNDERBANK Rangers look to claim a morale-boosting win ahead of the Conference National play-offs in their final home game of the season.

Leeds Academiks, who Rangers beat when the sides met in June, travel to The Cross tomorrow (2.30).

Looking forward to the game, player-coach Aaron Perrin said he hoped there will be a big crowd present.

“Hopefully people will come, cheer us on and see us claim a win ahead of the play-offs,” he explained.

“Without being disrespectful, I don’t think, player-wise, Leeds have the most talented 17 in the league.

“But we still know tomorrow’s game will be tricky because they are a real grafting side.”

In their last league outing two days ago, Underbank were outclassed 34-10 at Warrington, with three tries being scored in just nine minutes.

Despite only one win in their last four games, reflecting on the season up to now, Perrin believes that already Rangers have accomplished a lot.

“While we know probably deep down within ourselves that we should have finished the normal league season in the top four, we have made the play-offs for the first time in five years,” he said.

“So, on that basis, we have taken massive steps and we need to continue taking those steps.”

Similar to Perrin, John Birt, who scored one of Underbank’s only two tries in their defeat at Warrington, is also confident ahead of the play-offs.

“I’m hopeful we can do well,” said Birt.

“I know that results of late haven’t gone our way, but we have had to do it tough with a lack of key players – men who we will get back for then.”

Regarding the Leeds game, Birt said Rangers were lucky to win the corresponding fixture earlier in the season and hopes tomorrow will be different.

“We let ourselves down before by only narrowly grabbing a win,” he added.

“But I’m pretty confident we give a good performance this time and go away easily with a victory.”
