Five minutes of first half chaos set Rishworthians on the way to a 38-3 away defeat in their Yorkshire II trip to promotion-chasing Bradford Salem.

Rishworthians might have scored two or three tries in the first 25 minutes, but their finishing wasn’t clinical enough and they were made to pay.

Missed tackles in midfield let the home side in for a converted try and then RIshworthians went to pieces and a second converted try was scored.

After that they never really recovered, although fullback Joe Billing narrowed the deficit with a penalty.

Rishworthians had opened the game well, dominating the scrums and winning two against the head.

They almost scored out wide from a tap penalty, but flanker Chris Dyson was held up.

The visitors suffered a major blow when player-coach Damian Ball went off injured, but replacement, teenager Alex Kindred, almost got in from full-back.

The wind was a feature of the game, blowing downfield and when left-wing Anthony Shoesmith looked favourite to touch down from a kick, the strong gale carried the ball dead.

Rishworthians went into the second-half trailing 14-3 and as the gale became stronger, they started to find it impossible to get out of their own half.

Although they defended well, a score became inevitable as the home stand-off dived through from close-range for a converted try.

Salem started to take charge, and following a forward drive rumbling over in the corner, the Salem stand-off spotted a gap for his second converted try.

A final try in corner then finished off the visitors.
