FORMER Huddersfield Giants Super League hooker Gareth Greenwood has been named at outside centre as Huddersfield YMCA seek a timely competitive boost.

Coach Carl Thewlis’ side are still smarting from last week’s 15-5 Yorkshire I defeat at fellow strugglers Bradford Salem.

And the Laund Hill chief is now looking at tomorrow’s EDF Senior Vase trip to face Wirral (2.00) as the chance to respond positively and get their campaign back on track.

Thewlis has made a number of changes from the side that lost at Bradford in a bid to spark the YMCA, with the shift of Greenwood from wing to centre a key.

“Gareth is still learning and that’s why he has played on the wing for us in his opening games,” said Thewlis.

“But now is the time to see what he can do at centre with his attacking skills.”
