Heath reached the second round of the Yorkshire Shield with a narrow 11-10 home win over Doncaster Phoenix.

For Heath Jeff Jones came in at No8 for the absent Dave Montgomery and they went ahead with an Ezra Hinchliffe penalty, but then Olly Wilby was sin-binned soon after Doncaster were on top.

However, Heath retained their lead and a penalty from Hinchliffe put them six points ahead five minutes into the second half.

Phoenix full-back Craig Deacon dragged the visitors back to within a point with a try that was not converted, but on the hour they went ahead with a touchdown from a push-over.

On 68 minutes Heath struck the killer blow when Puttick, Jones and Walsh combined to set up Hinchliffe who broke for the line.

His timely pass released Miller to score the try, but Hinchliffe’s conversion attempt grazed the outside of a post and the home side had to hang on for 10 minutes to seal victory.
