Ben Morrell is back for Huddersfield Rugby Union Club.

The 24-year-old hooker has spent more than a year out after snapping a cruciate ligament and undergoing reconstruction surgery.

Birstall-based Morrell will be on the bench when Huddersfield re-open their National II North campaign against Luctonians at Lockwood Park on Saturday.

And coach Gareth Lewis says it’s terrific news for the club as they bid to climb from 13th in the table.

“It’s like having a new signing, and a really good player as well,” said Lewis, who will not be in the 19 himself this weekend after a flu bug.

“Ben was one of our key players before his injury – a dynamic ball carrier with an all-action style – and while it’s been a long old road back for him, we are delighted to have him involved again.

“He has gradually done more and more training over the last month or so and he’s ready to go again in a playing sense.

“We are looking forward to seeing him and I know the club faithful will be delighted to see him back in action. It really is great news for us.”
