Huddersfield RUFC’s Academy have secured sponsorship as they kick off their new season.

The Academy start their new campaign in the Yorkshire Senior Colts Premier Division having kept the majority of players from the Junior Colts Yorkshire Division II winning side.

Recruitment of new players and sponsors is key for the club and Huddersfield have recruited VTech SMT Ltd as the team’s shirt sponsor, and are also backed by several other businesses, in a bid to field a side stronger than the one which was unable to complete last year’s fixtures.

Academy coach Jonathan Prescott said: “We’ve got a good sized squad from last year’s Junior Colts team that won the Yorkshire two league, so there is a successful team coming through.”

The Academy is a key part of the clubs pathway system, which aims to bring through potential first team players such as current regular Tom Owen.

“Tom came through the academy and played in the first team at a young age, so he’s a shining example of what can be achieved with the correct hard work and dedication,” said Prescott.

“It’s all about identifying and nurturing the club’s young talent through it’s development pathway process.”

With new sponsors on board, Huddersfield hope to be able produce their own stars with the Academy side, increasing their chances of success, as well as the first XV’s likelihoods of future players.

“We’ve identified about half a dozen lads who are hopefully going to follow in those footsteps and of course there could be more,” added Prescott.

“We are working hand in hand with Gareth Lewis (first team coach) to ensure we have a coordinated approach.”
