Old Crocs will be going out to spoil North I East new boys Huddersfield YMCA’s excitement as the rugby union season swings into life on Saturday.

But Damon Scholes, YM’s director of rugby, says the visitors, who will be playing at their highest level since the league system was introduced, know what is coming their way.

Former Halifax Vandals coach Scholes explained: “I’ve been across to watch Crocs in pre-season, and I was impressed.”

Wins over Scarborough and Bradford & Bingley were sandwiched around a 12-0 home defeat by Heath for the Broomfield side, who are now coached by ex-Rotherham player Neil Spence.

Calderdale’s two Yorkshire I clubs are both at home, Heath facing Wath-upon-Dearne and Brodleians meeting Dinnington.

Brods were beaten 31-13 by Huddersfield YMCA in a friendly last Saturday.

Damian Ball’s Rishworthians, stung by a 44-7 home loss to Scarborough in the Yorkshire Shield, start life in Yorkshire II after last season’s promotion at home to Sheffield Medicals.

In Yorkshire IV, Saturday week, September 14 marks the start of the season.

Halifax face Sheffield Oaks at Ovenden Park while Vandals host Mosborough.
