Old Rishworthians saved their best performance until the last game of the season with a 38-32 home win over Yarnbury which gained them a Yorkshire Two mid-table position.

Their opponents too made sure of promotion with two bonus points to give them added impetus for a trip to Twickenham next week in the Intermediate Vase final.

Rishworthians, missing their three biggest pack members, were at times brilliant, but Yarnbury constantly hit back and the home side had to hang on at the end to win.

The home side were fired up from the start and a series of forward drives ended with prop Ryan Mudd touching down and full back Joe Billing converted.

Yarnbury hit back with left wing Ellis Gomersall getting the first of his three tries and then sloppy Rishworthians tackling allowed a second unconverted try and the visitors also added a penalty.

As the half ended left wing Anthony Shoesmith rounded his man to score and Billing converted.

Rishworthians scored again with the last move of the half, hooker Simon Edmundson touching down and Billing converting to make it 21–13 at the break.

The home side started the second half as they finished the first and after a stylish break by player-coach Damian Ball, lock Callum Heseltine went in for a try, which Billing converted.

Yarnbury hit back with a converted try from the stand-off and Gomersall got his second after charging down a kick.

A superb offload from Mudd saw lock Fraser Swarbrooke touching down, but Yarnbury hit back again, Gomersall finding himself unmarked to score a converted try to make it 33–32.

Rollings then picked up loose ball and ran on to score an unconverted try and while the visitors threw everything at Rishworthians in the last five minutes, the Copley side held on for a deserved victory.
